Extra Special Pets for Extra Special People
What’s an extra special pet?
An extra special pet is one that has special needs. It may need a home where there are no other animals, or perhaps no children. It could also mean the animal has a chronic medical condition and needs regular medication. Some of our pets may exhibit behavior problems and need correction with behavior modification training. Although they’re all special…they’re not for everyone.
What’s an extra special person?
An extra special person is someone with the time, patience and experience needed to provide lifetime care for one of our extra special pets. You may need physical as well as financial strength to help an arthritic Golden Retriever get up in the morning and back down at nap time. It takes an extra special person to care for a kitty who doesn’t always use it’s litter box or to train a dog who enjoys chewing on shoes, furniture and walls. We consider all of our adopters special…but we know that most families aren’t equipped to handle these types of challenges.
How do I adopt an extra special pet?
The first step would be to complete an adoption profile form and meet with our Adoptions Manager for review. Upon approval, the Adoption Manager will discuss the expectations and requirements of adopting an extra special pet and arrange a “meet and greet” with you and the special pet.
Is there an additional fee to adopt an extra special pet?
No. We do not charge any more than the customary $80 adoption donation fee for our extra special pets. The adoption fee is a minimum donation towards the care and costs of all our homeless animals. All dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, inoculated against common diseases, dewormed, screened and/or treated for Heartworm Disease or Feline Aids/Leukemia (as applicable), given a health examination and have microchip identification.
If you’re an extra special person, won’t you please consider welcoming one of these extra special pets into your home and into your heart?
For an animal with health challenges, your compassion and care can mean the difference between a life of health and happiness, or a life with little hope for joy. For a pet with behavior issues, your devotion and patience can mean the difference between a life filled with loneliness, or a life filled with love. The choice is yours. Your life will certainly change. Your heart will thank you for it.
