Q: What is the minimum age to volunteer?
A: You must be at least 16 years of age to join the Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) volunteer program. We have several education-based volunteer programs for children under 16 years. Please visit our Humane Education page for more details.
Q: What are the details and requirements for the Volunteer Program?
A: The Volunteer Program is for individuals;
- interested and available to volunteer on a regular, on-going basis for at least three months.
- interested in a variety of roles; Adoption Assistant, Puppy Room Monitor, Dog Handler, Thrift Store Associate, Kitty Butler and more!
There is a volunteer fee of $25 which includes a volunteer t-shirt and name tag and helps defray JHS program expenses. Please see the Next Step section below to complete the sign up for the JHS volunteer program.
Q: Can I complete my court-ordered community service at the JHS?
A: Yes, you can. Minimum age is 18. However, that program is not managed through the volunteer office. The Volunteer Services Manager cannot sign-off on any document verifying any type of court-ordered or related community service. For more information, please call 725.8766 x 241 for a recording of the program details.
Q: Next Step to join the JHS Volunteer Program...
Once you have completed and turned in the volunteer application, our Community Outreach Department will contact you within two-three weeks for an interview. During your interview we will collect your volunteer program fee, schedule you for any training classes and determine your schedule. You will also receive a JHS volunteer t-shirt. For questions, please contact our Community Outreach Manager via e-mail.
