9th Annual Fur Ball Gala
“ARCTIC NIGHTS” May 31, 2008
2008 FUR BALL A SUCCESS!
A sell-out crowd of 380 people and 150 of their pets were wined and dined at 9th Annual Fur Ball Gala. The gala, held on May 31, 2008, at the University of North Florida’s University Center Ballroom, raised more than $86,000 for the Jacksonville Humane Society.
Atendees and their animal companions came dressed for the theme of this year’s event, “Arctic Nights.” As guests strolled down the snow-covered blue carpet, four-legged critters were judged in various categories. At the end of the night, the top prizes went to King Woody Benz and Queen Sheena Kenney.
The evening’s other highlights included gourmet hors d’ouevres and dinner, a live and silent auction, and a pet treat bar. The hit of the Fur Ball Gala was the ice bar adorned with the Jacksonville Humane Society’s newly designed logo. In addition to being used to serve drinks, the dripping ice also served as a water source for the dogs in attendance.
Another exciting component of this year’s event was Barkitecture. The Jacksonville chapter of the American Institute of Architects partnered with the construction, architecture, and design community to create designer dog houses and kitty condos. The structures were auctioned off to raise money for the animals of the Jacksonville Humane Society.
