Dog Manners Class

Our classes are based on positive reinforcement methods and are extremely popular in Jacksonville and surrounding areas. Our Dog Manners classes are for dogs 4 months and older and begin with a 2.5 hour orientation class that is humans only. Attendance at the humans-only class is mandatory. The remaining 6 classes will meet once a week for 75 minutes. Also, these classes are designed to build a great relationship with your dog and without using any dominance.

In our classes we teach the hand signals first, followed by the verbal cues and safely in a private “station” for you and your dog. This method has proven very successful for the fearful or slightly reactive dogs. The “stations” have barriers on both sides with privacy netting and in Week 5, we take the dogs out of their stations for a very fun “leave it” obstacle course. Also, for safety reasons all dogs are tethered to their owners with a 10 foot longline along with your leash.

The hand signals and cues that are taught in class are: sit, down, stand, come, wait, stay, touch it, leave it, drop it, off!, no jumping, watch me, and loose leash walking. We put these all together into useful real life applications and also add some very fun tricks.

Training should not be a chore. It should be fun! With our very easy-to-follow classes and homework, you will certainly be able to achieve the above hand signals and cues. Last, Graduation is a colorful celebration and there is no test.

Dog Manners Class Goals: The goal of this class is to teach you how to always set your dog up to succeed in training, without stress, fear, or harm. The bond you two will achieve with positive reinforcement methods will make living with your dog easier to understand by changing the behaviors that you do not like, into ones that you do like. And, it’s the most humane way to train.

We have just started our November Dog Manners Classes and when these classes graduate mid-December, we will take 2 weeks off at Christmas through New Year's Day. We have found that it is just too difficult for the owners to train during this time. However, we have already started a contact/early bird contact list if you would like to ensure that you get into these next upcoming classes. Please email me at

Also, please let me know in your email if you adopted your dog from our facility or another rescue/shelter.
