Pet Therapy

Are you willing to share your dog with others? You can help bring happiness to residents of nursing homes, schools, hospitals, and to children with special needs. Pet Therapy is a wonderful activity for you and your dog. By sharing your best friend with others, you can bring so much joy into their lives and you and your pet are spending quality time together. It’s a win-win situation!
 

Details

Who: Dogs must be at least 12 months old, already have great manners with cues, and be well socialized and capable of handling stress calmly.

Cost: $50 per dog; must pre-register with payment for before class.

Requirements: Dogs must be current on vaccinations, including rabies and a negative fecal. Must be spayed or neutered. Please provide proof prior to the beginning of the first class. You can email or fax your animal vaccination record to behavior@jaxhumane.org or 904.725.3040 (Attn: Behavior).

Length: 4 weeks
 
Pet Therapy Goals: The goal of this class is to establish a foundation and teach the principles involved in pet therapy visits. This is a 4 week course that includes a field trip to an assisted living facility. Dogs must be at least 12 months of age, already have great dog manners with cues, and be well socialized and capable of handling stress calmly. The average commitment for pet therapy visits is one to two visits per month. AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Certificate is highly recommended, but not required for this course.
