JHS Youth Volunteer Program

The youth volunteer program gives teens between the ages of 16-18 and still enrolled in a high school program, the opportunity to complete community service hours for school or scholarship requirements. We are limited in the number of youth volunteers that we take at one time. We only offer this in the Summer and Fall.

We are looking for youth who demonstrate:

  • Academic excellence
  • An ability to commit to our program:
    • Youth volunteers participating in the summer program  must commit to volunteering at least once a week for at least 12 weeks.
    • Volunteers must commit to volunteer on the same day each week.
    • Volunteers who cannot commit to this will not be considered.
  • A willingness to work with both cats and dogs
  • Being comfortable talking to members of the public

It is important to know, that youth volunteers will no longer be considered for animal handling positions unless they successfully complete their commitment to the Youth Program, though these placements are not guaranteed. There is also a $25 program fee that is required of all volunteers.

To become a youth volunteer, the first step is to attend a youth volunteering info session. (The Fall session has already begun, there will not be another information session until May 2019- Summer session)
